Fire Blankets

Fire blankets are made from fire-resistant sheets of material. They are used by covering a fire in order to cut its supply of oxygen or they can be used to wrap a person whose clothes are on fire.

Advantages

  • Quick and easy to apply
  • Light weight
  • Easy to maintain
  • Cheaper than extinguishers

Disadvantages

  • In order to use on a fire, you have to move close to the fire where your hands will be particularly vulnerable
  • They can only be used on a very small and contained fire
  • You probably only get one go at extinguishing the fire . If you fail to put out the fire then you will not be able to retrieve the blanket
