Water UK High Risk Confined Spaces
Duration: 3 days
Recommended for: Persons nominated to work in or at confined spaces where work has been assessed and classified as NC4 (High Risk) under the Water UK scheme and who require pre-assessment training to prepare them for assessment in City & Guilds 6150-03.
Aim: This is a City & Guilds of London Institute certificated competency based training and assessment course.
Objective: A high proportion of hands on demonstrations and practical exercises, supplemented with classroom based tutorials and pre and post course assessments. Delegates attending this course should be physically and mentally fit to withstand the rigours of training.
Course Content:
A review of the requirements of the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 leads to an understanding of how to:
- Interpret the Water UK Confined Spaces classification scheme
- Risk assess residual hazards
- Recognise changing environments
- Use and interpret gas monitors to verify safe atmospheres
- Understand the nature and occurrence of problem atmospheres
- Use ancillary safety items including; harnesses, ropes, winches and life lines
- Prepare breathing apparatus for use, observing duration indicators and user checks, don and wear breathing
- apparatus correctly observing all fitting and performance checks
- Work following a safe system of work
- React positively in an emergency situation
Certification: City & Guilds 6150-03 Level 2. This qualification does not, however, give certified competency as an Overseer of Work. The City & Guilds Unit 6150-04 will be required if the nominated person wishes to obtain the Overseer of Work Occupational Standard Qualification.
